Red Wine - Beaune 1er Cru
The grapes are harvested and sorted manually. Maceration lasts about 3 weeks with extractions using pumping over and punching down. Grapes are completely destemmed. The wines are aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels with 40 to 50% new barrels.
Terroir
The plot is located at the top of the hillside, on the Beaune mountain, facing east. This old vine grows on very calcareous and shallow soils, giving small millerandé grapes and consequently very low yields.
At the beginning of the 20th century, this Clos belonged to a community of nuns, probably those who welcomed the numerous orphans in Beaune to the Hospice de la Charité in the 17th century, when this Hospice was founded to respond to the rigors of the times. The incessant plague epidemics and the ravages of the Thirty Years' War were at the origin of such misery. That this Clos bears the name of Sainte-Anne, the mother of the Virgin considered to be the mother of all Men, is understandable!
Food and Wine Pairings
Prepared dishes, grilled and sauced meats, cheeses.
Tasting Note
Bright, ruby red. This wine delivers a pleasant bouquet of red fruits accompanied by a measured woodiness. The palate is tender, dense and elegant. A gourmet wine with a saline finish and good ageing potential.
