A Simple Guide to Going Gluten-free

Do you really need to avoid gluten?

People may eliminate gluten from their diets for a variety of health concerns, including Celiac Disease and gluten sensitivity that results in abdominal pain, diarrhoea, bloating, and fatigue. To follow a gluten-free diet, avoid foods made with wheat, barley, or rye, such as bread, pasta, and baked goods. Other foods that may contain gluten include beer, soy sauce, and some types of processed foods. Many packaged foods may contain hidden sources of gluten, and cross-contamination can occur during food preparation or processing. Consulting with a registered dietitian can help ensure your gluten-free diet is nutritionally balanced and sustainable.

With some careful planning and attention to food labels, eradicating gluten doesn’t have to be difficult. There are many naturally gluten-free foods you can enjoy, such as fruits, vegetables, lean plant and animal proteins, and gluten-free grains like quinoa, rice, and corn. Little Farms stocks a variety of gluten-free alternatives and replacements. Here are a few of our favourites.

Enjoy Oh My Goodness vegan baked goods with a cuppa at Little Farms Table in Tanglin Mall. And treat yourself at home to delicious Oh My Goodness cakes, including moist Vegan Carrot Walnut, tangy Vegan Lemon Raspberry, fudgy Signature Dark Chocolate, and local favourite spongy Pandan Cake.

With sauce-catching fusilli spirals, pesto-perfect linguini, and traditional spaghetti ready for all your classic preparations like clam sauce, simple tomato, or chili and garlic, you’re sure to find the perfect noodle.

We are crushing hard on Nuco coconut wraps. Try cinnamon wrapped around a banana, with a little nut butter and honey for a quick breakfast or snack on the go. For lunch or dinner envelope your favourite savoury fillings with the turmeric wrap for a different flavour boost.

When making Asian or Asian-inspired dishes, Ri’s Coconut Aminos is a great alternative to soy sauce. This fermented coconut blossom sap is a bit sweeter than traditional soy sauce, but with much less sodium. Use it as a one-to-one soy sauce replacement.
