Statement - Sunny Queen

Sunny Queen Response to Salmonella Enteritidis Outbreak

Sunny Queen Australia is aware of a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak in Australia.

I am writing to advise that no farms supplying Sunny Queen Australia have been affected by this outbreak.

All eggs supplied by our business are safe to eat, and no Sunny Queen Ingredients or Meal Solutions products have been affected by this issue.

We can also confirm that the supply of Sunny Queen eggs, Sunny Queen Ingredients and Sunny Queen Meal Solutions products is not affected by this issue.

Sunny Queen is continuing to closely monitor this issue at all of our supplier farms. As part of our meticulous quality management system, we have invested in world class Salmonella mitigation protocols and testing systems. Our supplier farms are certified under the national Salmonella Enteritidis Monitoring and Accreditation Program which includes regular monitoring of our flocks.

Additionally, our supplier farms have extensive Salmonella monitoring and control programs which include:

 ▪ Vaccination of all layer hens for Salmonella typherium

 ▪ All feed used at supplier farms contains natural organic acids to control Salmonella species in feed ingredients

 ▪ Flocks are regularly tested with environmental swabs of sheds

 ▪ Random environmental swabs are taken at packing/grading floors

 ▪ Wash water temperature, pH and chlorine sanitising is monitored

 ▪ Strict biosecurity protocols are in place to further protect our farms

Attached is written confirmation of Sunny Queen’s Salmonella Compliance and Monitoring programs from Doctor Peter Scott, Technical Advisor and author of the National SE Control and Monitoring Program, and the National Biosecurity Manual for Poultry.

Our supplier farms are independently audited, both to the Egg Standards of Australia (ESA), and additionally to Sunny Queen’s own Farm To Table (FTT) quality and welfare standard, which goes above and beyond ESA requirements.

Sunny Queen is also HACCP accredited, and of course meets all the requirements of the Model Code of Practice for the Welfare of animals.

Our farms work closely with vets and animal nutritionists to ensure flocks are well cared for and healthy. Each Sunny Queen egg comes from a farm run by experienced, caring farmers – many of whom have produced eggs for generations. We’re proud to supply our customers with the finest quality eggs, every day.

We are continuing to work with appropriate authorities, including government health departments, to monitor the situation.
