Smallfry Barossa Riesling - South Australia - 75cl
A delicious off dry Riesling made from organic Barossa fruit. So much of this wine is about mouth feel, the balance between the fuller Riesling characters and the rounding sensation of the residual sugar. The lime and tropical flavours of this wine pair beautifully with fragrant, spicy dishes
Water white with golden and green hints, it shows rich lime and tropical fruit with some musky, spicy notes. Mouth filling sweet lime cordial and lemon citrus notes are balanced with clean acid finish This Riesling goes well with most shellfish dishes, also delicious with spicy Asian influenced foods
The engagingly named Smallfry Wines is the venture of Wayne Ahrens and partner Suzi Hilder. Wayne is from a fifth-generation Barossa family; Suzi is the daughter of well known Upper Hunter viticulturist Richard Hilder and wife Del, former partners in Pyramid Hill Wines. Both have degrees from CSU, and both have extensive experience - Suzi was a consultant viticulturist, and Wayne's track record includes seven vintages as a cellar hand at Orlando Wyndham and other smaller Barossa wineries. Their vineyards in the Eden Valley (led by cabernet sauvignon and riesling) and the Vine Vale area of the Barossa Valley (shiraz, grenache, semillon, mourvedre, cabernet sauvignon and riesling) are certified biodynamic/organic. They also favour natural ferments, nil to minimal adjustment, old oak a soft hand in the cellar allows the vineyard to speak. Their style is food friendly, Euro style, with a eye to balance and subtlety.
