Carrick Vineyard's home, Bannockburn, is found deep in the southern interior of New Zealand's South Island, in the wine region of Central Otago. Situated on wind-blown loess soils, Carrick's vineyards have low natural fertility, encouraging the vines to grow their roots into the deep fractured schist layers – the result are wines of excellent character and structure. Carrick farm their vines organically to respect the special nature of the soil, pruning; shoot positioning; shoot and fruit thinning; leaf plucking; and picking by hand.
