White Wine - Pinot Gris 2022
Background
Mount Brown Estates is named after our first vineyard in the foothills of Mount Brown in the Waipara Valley. Our Pinot Gris was planted in 2001 and 2006.
Geographical Indicator: Waipara, North Canterbury
Source: Limeloader and Weka Gravels vineyards
Varietal Composition and viticulture
100% Pinot Gris. The vines are on well-drained sandy gravels on a warm site and are a mix of clones: Lincoln-Berry Smith and 2/15. They were hand-thinned to reduce the crop-load to about 3kg a vine. The grapes were harvested in April over a period of three weeks.
Winemaking
Most of the Pinot Gris is grown metres from the winery where all wine is made and bottled. The wine spent a short period on yeast lees after fermentation before being stabilized, filtered and bottled.
Tasting Notes
This delicious wine is a golden colour, with upfront fruit with lovely pear and peach flavours. Some subtle quince and spice notes add to the complexity. Some residual sugar results in a medium-full palate with great texture.
