Manhattan History

The Manhattan cocktail has been famous since its creation. It’s said it was created around 1870 at Manhattan Club in New York by Ian Marshall during the reception organised by Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph Churchill, Winston Churchill’s mother) in honour of the presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden. The drink was a great success, becoming very trendy - people began to order it referring to the club, The Manhattan, where it was created. The cocktail soon became very popular in Europe too, probably helped by its name which gives a perfect synthesis of the Big Apple in a glass.
