The 2020 vintage sees the introduction of a fruit driven whole bunch Grenache from the Frankland subregion of the Great Southern, “At First Sight”.

The 2020 At First Sight Grenache is out early bottle and release fruit driven juicy red style. Grenache is well suited to the dry
and gravelly Frankland subregion and we thought it would suit carbonic maceration (whole bunch) too.

The fruit was handpicked from 2 different blocks. The first block picked was fermented as 100% whole bunches (carbonic maceration), which allows the fermentation to occur inside each berry. This technique is used extensively in Beaujolais. The later picked block, which is 30% of the blend, was also handpicked and destemmed onto 10% whole bunches. When dry both parcels were gently pressed and run to seasoned 500L puncheons for 4 months.

Bright purple red in colour, and punchy primary raspberry, cherry and earthy aromas show the influence of the carbonic maceration. Juicy sweet red fruit, sappy tannins, complex spice and red licorice characters open up on the palate. This is a bright
youthful expression of Grenache made for early consumption, slightly chilled, with wood fired pizza or a hearty meatballs dish.
